Random Encounter!

Apparently roleplaying games will take over your life. I mean, most everyone who reads this has heard me babbling about the Changeling game I'm in at least a little, but this one wasn't intentional.

Especially since I don't think Changeling normally has random encounters.

Anyway, I was at the bookstore (actually at the bank, which is inside the bookstore for reasons I suspect benefit the store) when I ran into one of the other players - whom I'll call "Fox" here, because her character more or less is. Well, I say ran into - apparently she saw me come in, but I didn't hear her calling.

So what did she do? She snuck up behind me and addressed my character in her character's voice. Given that Fox's voice has a definite dangerous undercurrent to it, you can imagine my reaction to hearing it purring "Hello Dark-eyes" in my ear. Namely that it scared the crap out of me - I think I may have stepped on her foot, but if I did she didn't say anything about it.

We had a pleasant conversation while I waited for one of the tellers at the bank to be free (in which I informed her I couldn't be at game because I was spending Easter at home), but it was just the start that was weird. And about gave me a heart attack.

I sorta did that to a uni friend, some... *counts on fingers* nine years after the last time I'd seen him. We ended up at the same professional conference, and I spotted him during a speech. I walked up behind him during a break and used a line from a play we did in uni together. He jumped half a mile high, then gave me a big hug.

Oh, he had to hug you too -- you were "on board" and definitely making your presence known.

I haven't seen him since. Which is probably just as well, since your father hated him for being the rival for my time and affections that he was.

Is Fox the not-in-school female?

[identity profile] matthias-wave.livejournal.com 2010-04-01 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. o///o just a little.

No, no. I think Fox is a senior. But one out of two ain't bad.

[identity profile] yushi-radishes.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
That would be rather creepy. Does she tend to do that out of character?
PS: Do not give me ideas. You do not want to give me ideas.
On a more upbeat note, yay for you coming home for Österpause!

[identity profile] matthias-wave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
No, in fact I think this may be the first time she's ever done it out of character that I've seen. Though it does tend to creep into her voice just a little when she's being sarcastic.

Don't get your hopes up; it only worked because I was completely and utterly not expecting it. I had no idea she was even there; Fox are sneaky, both IC and in RL. Sneakier IC, but that's because it's a LARP and her character has fox feet and doesn't wear shoes.

Yay~ You've basically got me Friday evening, all of Saturday, and Sunday morning. I see you finally dragged Mom to see Alice?

[identity profile] yushi-radishes.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Why yes, yes I did. Pete did the dragging, I tagged along. She wowed over the rain drop on the leaf pretty early in the film. Sucker for 3D.

Plz not to mind RP journal

[identity profile] lizardgirlpir8.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'll bet. Did they have the trailer for Legend of the Guardians, too?

And what did you think of the one for Tron Legacy?

Re: Plz not to mind RP journal

[identity profile] gritsinmisery.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yes they did. The feather graphics work is excellent. *eyeballs IMDb* Whoa, nice voice talent on that one.

As for Legacy... I'm not certain the story was begging to be told, but the graphics totes rock. And I'm a serious sucker for Boxleitner. Ask Matthias or Yushi how much B-5 litters up the vid cabinet.

[identity profile] matthias-wave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
That is me, Mom - like I said, RP journal. I has them. :P

[identity profile] gritsinmisery.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'm supposed to keep track?

Re: Plz not to mind RP journal

[identity profile] yushi-radishes.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Tron Legacy looked very shiny. *stares at glowy rings*
Damn, now I need to learn the original plot of Tron...

Re: Plz not to mind RP journal

[identity profile] matthias-wave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure there's a better than even chance Mom and Dad have it somewhere.

If not you can probably get it on PPV - maybe tonight or tomorrow, when I'm home to watch with you? *big eyes*

Re: Plz not to mind RP journal

[identity profile] yushi-radishes.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Heheheh. Mos' likely we can find it, if not on PPV then at a video store.

[identity profile] gritsinmisery.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Correction: sucker for complex graphics rendering. I would have been impressed even if we'd seen it in 2-D (and a hella lot less broke.) Remember, your hausfrau mutter used to develop and maintain computer graphics programs for government contracts. I had a real life once upon a time... *grins*

[identity profile] matthias-wave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
*patpat* &hearts

Don't worry, mom, we know. Oh, and just to keep you from going over and over this every time one of them gets mentioned, no, I have no plans to hook up with any of the girls (or women) in my Changeling group.

[identity profile] gritsinmisery.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
You're not getting any younger, you know... (/Jewish mother)

[identity profile] matthias-wave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Mother, I'm nineteen.

And you're not Jewish. For that matter, is anyone in your family Jewish?

[identity profile] gritsinmisery.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
*scratches head* Highly unlikely. I'm guessing we're Protestant clear back to where you run into an aboriginal ancestor or the English Civil War. Grandma F's side is Methodist as far back as I know, and I'm clueless about Grandpa B's. I never heard anyone mention where your Great-Grandma B or her mom and dad went to church, although there was pretty much nobody that didn't back then. Grandma F would probably know that, though.

[identity profile] matthias-wave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
My point, she is proven.

Also, Kazie thinks you're cool.

[identity profile] pastelmelody.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
It's always fun to meet the players in person. Although in my case they were all planned, no random encounters. XD Back during the Econtra days, Kane-mun, Meilin-mun and I had coffee together... and we ended up just talking about the modplot. XD;

PS. *giggles while reading all those comments* I think your mom is cool. :D

[identity profile] matthias-wave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I see her fairly regularly (this is the real-life game I'm in, remember), but not usually outside of the game.

@ PS: I'm sure she's happy to hear that. Yes, that's my mom and my little sister down there.

[identity profile] pastelmelody.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
*wavewave* Hi, cool mom and little sister! ♥

:P I was about to hijack your conversation with your mom, but then it hit me and I was like, "WHOOPS this isn't an RP thread~" XD

Oh, and have a fun Easter! I probably won't be able to thread much over the weekend; it's not final, but we might be going to my grandma's. Just a heads-up.

[identity profile] gritsinmisery.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
*waves back* Thank you, darlin'. :D

Nope, it's an RL thread. And IRL, this tired old mom is headed for the sack, so I can make the 400-mile round trip tomorrow to fetch the boy home for the holiday.

BTW boyo, I'm not buying you another chocolate rabbit. You got yours last week. You'll just have to suffer while you watch your sibs drool over theirs. *insert evil laugh here*

[identity profile] matthias-wave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Or I can bring mine home, unless it's likely to melt on the way. *was saving it for Easter anyhow*

Hmm... do we still have that cooler thingy that came with the last van?

[identity profile] pastelmelody.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
BUNNY ;~;

[identity profile] gritsinmisery.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if you'll see this, but yes, I'll bring the cooler.

[identity profile] yushi-radishes.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, he won't. Dan? Up by noon? Unlikely.

[identity profile] matthias-wave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Only unlikely when he doesn't have class :P

I'm up by nine, most days. Due to having a noon class four out of five weekdays.

[identity profile] pastelmelody.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Rest well and keep rocking, cool mom. ♥~ Your boy's going to be up for a couple more hours, though. :P

... That's a good idea. I should ask my mom for a chocolate rabbit, too.

[identity profile] yushi-radishes.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
*also waves back, then scowls* Not that little!
Yes, I just did the spoiled little sister thing. Oh well.

This little sister is not as attached to the computer by the fingertips as her brother and mother, so she's often late on the uptake.

[identity profile] matthias-wave.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, also that exchange took place well after you went to bed :P

[identity profile] pastelmelody.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I stand corrected. Not that little. ;) So how would you like me to call you? :D

[identity profile] yushi-radishes.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm... *ponders*
How about younger sister? Everyone wants to be young forever, so...

[identity profile] pastelmelody.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Younger sister, then. :D

I suppose everyone does, but I still like being called big sister. I've probably just gotten so used to it, haha.
